Harding Softball Splits with Christian Brothers on Tuesday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Harding softball team won the first game of the non-conference doubleheader at Christian Brothers 5-1 before falling 12-10 in the second game on Tuesday. The Lady Bisons move to 10-5 overall.

It was Harding's first midweek games this season.

Game One

Harding got on the board first with two runs in the fifth inning. With runners at first and second, Kinsey Beck reached on a fielding error by the shortstop that drove in Courtney Derrick from second. Next batter Amanda Berdon singled through the left side to score Jessica Greene from second. Harding had bases loaded with no outs but couldn't manufacture another run as Christian Brothers got three straight outs.

Christian Brothers got one back in the bottom of the sixth when Jennifer Gonzalez doubled to center field that scored Marie Joiner from second. It was the first extra-base hit Harding's Amber Rollins has given up in three outings.

Harding scored three more in the top of the seventh. Brookelynn Moon got the Lady Bisons first RBI when she reached on a fielder's choice that scored Kinsey Beck. With bases loaded, Mackenzie Jones was hit by pitch that scored Amanda Berdon. Madison Wickline grounded out to the first basemen but Carolyn Clayton scored for Harding's final run.

Harding left 12 runners on base. It was the most runners left on by the Lady Bisons in a game this season.

Amber Rollins got the win for Harding (4-1). She pitched all seven innings, giving up three hits with four strikeouts. Kylie Steagall got the loss for Christian Brothers (1-2), pitching three innings and gave up three runs.

Game Two

Harding jumped out to a 7-0 lead, scoring three in the top of the first and four in the second. Christian Brothers scored six in the bottom of the second to pull within one and then took an 8-7 lead scoring two in the third.

Harding took back the lead in the fourth scoring three more. The Lady Bucs again pulled with one as they scored two in the bottom of the fourth. Christian Brothers got the go ahead run in the fifth as they scored two.

Harding had 14 hits and Christian Brothers (2-8) had 12. The Lady Bisons also had four errors.

Kimmy Hendricks led Harding, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Brookelynn Moon and Mackenzie Jones both had two RBI.

Christian Brothers was led by Marie Joiner and Jennifer Gonzalez who both had two RBI.

Tiari-Jay Fernandez got the win for the Lady Bucs (1-0) and Danielle Hubbard got the loss for Harding (5-3).

The Lady Bisons will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Durant, Okla., to face Southeastern Oklahoma on Friday and Saturday. The first pitch on Friday is at 1 p.m.
