SEARCY – The Harding softball team split with Delta State on Tuesday in non-conference action as they fell in the first game 7-5 and won the second game 3-2 in eight innings. The Lady Bisons move to 15-10 on the season and Delta State moves to 12-13.
Game One
In game one, Harding got behind in the first inning as they gave up two runs. Delta State scored three more in the second inning on four hits as they took a 5-0 lead. All three runs were scored with two outs.
Harding answered back in the bottom of the second as they scored three runs with two outs. The Lady Bisons hit three straight singles. Courtney Derrick, Kinsey Beck and Brookelynn Moon all knocked in a run.
Delta State scored two more in the top of the sixth to make it 7-3.
Harding rallied in the bottom of the seventh as they scored two runs but left two runners on.
Miller Maddox (3-3) got the win for Delta State, pitching 4 2/3 innings. She gave up 10 hits and five runs. Danielle Hubbard (6-5) got the loss for Harding.
Game Two
Harding held Delta State without a hit until the fourth hitting. The Lady Statesmen scored a run on a double by Amber Adcock that scored Kaitlin Moore from first.
The Lady Bisons tied the game, in the bottom of the fifth when Kinsey Beck knocked in Cody Veteto.
With the international tie breaker rule in effect, Delta State scored one in the top of the eighth to put the Lady Statesmen up 2-1.
Harding answered back in the bottom of the inning. Brookelyn Moon put down a sacrifice bunt to advance Kinsey Beck from second. Carolyn Clayton hit a single that drove in Beck for the tying run. After a Mackenzie Jones walk that put the winning run at second, Marley Edwards hit a game-winning single up the middle.
Amber Rollins (8-4) got the win for Harding. Rollins pitched all eight innings, gave up three hits and two runs and struck out two. Taylor Tucker (6-4) got the loss for Delta State.
The Lady Bisons will back in action this weekend as they travel to Magnolia, Ark., to face Southern Arkansas in Great American Conference action. First pitch on Friday is at 1 p.m.
