Harding Softball Drops Two at Southern Arkansas

SEARCY – The Harding softball team dropped both games against Southern Arkansas in Great American Conference action on Friday. Southern Arkansas won 4-1 and 10-2.

The Lady Bisons fall to 15-12 on the season and 7-7 in the GAC. Southern Arkansas improves to 13-11 and 8-6 in the GAC.

Game One

Southern Arkansas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on two homeruns. The Lady Muleriders tacked on two more in the bottom of the third when Shelby Miller and Audrey Farfan both singled in a run.

Harding's run came in the top of the seventh when Carolyn Clayton homered to center field. It was her second of the year.

Hanna Gill (4-1) got the win for Southern Arkansas as she threw a complete game, gave up three hits and struck out nine. Amber Rollins (8-5) got the loss for Harding. Rollins, the GAC leader in strikeouts, struck out eight Southern Arkansas players.

Game Two

Harding held Southern Arkansas scoreless until the bottom of the third when Maddie Dow doubled down the left field line to drive in a run.

The Lady Bisons got on the board in the fourth, when Amanda Berdon singled to right to score Kimmy Hendricks from second.

Harding got its second run in the top of the fifth when Kinsey Beck singled to center field that scored Jessica Greene from third.

Southern Arkansas had a big fifth inning as they scored seven runs on five hits with two Harding errors.

Kinsey Beck went 2-for-3 for Harding.

Shelby Miller (5-5) got the win for the Lady Muleriders. In six innings of work she gave up five hits and two runs. Danielle Hubbard (6-5) got the loss for Harding.

The two teams will wrap up their series on Saturday in a doubleheader that starts at 12 p.m.
