Harding Softball Hit 7 Homeruns in Game Two to Split with Northwestern Oklahoma

ALVA, Okla.  – The Harding softball team split with Northwestern Oklahoma in Great American Conference action on Saturday. The Lady Bisons lost the first game 6-4 in eight innings but rebounded to win the final game of the series 13-9 behind a season-high seven homeruns.

Harding moves to 21-18 overall and 13-13 in the GAC. The Rangers move to 24-9 overall and 14-6 in the GAC.

Game One

After trailing 2-1 heading into the top of the sixth, Marley Edwards singled to left center which allowed Carolyn Clayton to come around and score to tie the game for Harding. After holding the Rangers scoreless in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Bisons took a 4-2 lead on a homerun by Brookelynn Moon and a double by Amanda Berdon that scored Heidi Abston who pitch ran for Carolyn Clayton.

Harding had two quick outs in the bottom of the eighth but a dropped foul ball gave Northwestern Oklahoma new life. The Rangers had back-to-back hits which scored a run. Then Lindsay Thortenson hit a 3-run homerun to center field to give Northwestern Oklahoma the win.

Moon, Clayton, Amanda Berdon and Jessica Greene all had two hits for Harding. Berdon drove in two runs.

Shelby Anderson (14-3) got the win for Northwestern Oklahoma with the complete game. Anderson gave up 10 hits, four runs and struck out three. Amber Rollins (12-8) got the loss for Harding. Rollins gave up nine hits and struck out five.

Game Two

Courtney Derrick, the first batter of the game, hit a homerun to right field to give Harding the lead. The Lady Bisons led the rest of the way as they scored in every inning and hit a season-high seven homeruns. Harding scored three in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Amanda Berdon hit two homeruns for Harding. It was her first career multi-homer game and pushed her season total to five. Kinsey Beck (2), Carolyn Clayton (3), Kimmy Hendricks (4) and Courtney Chambers all had homeruns. It was Chambers first collegiate homerun.

The Lady Bisons had 13 total hits. It was Harding's 15th game this season with 10 or more hits.

Shelby Anderson led Northwestern Oklahoma with four hits and three RBI.

Amber Rollins (13-8) got the win for Harding. Rollins pitched 1 2/3rd innings. She gave up three hits and had one strikeout. Danielle Hubbard started the game for the Lady Bisons. She pitched 5 1/3rd innings, gave up 12 hits, seven runs and struck out two. Kellie Mason (13-8) got the loss for Northwestern Oklahoma.

The Lady Bisons will be back in action next weekend as they host Southwestern Oklahoma in GAC action. First pitch on Friday is at 2 p.m.
