SEARCY – The Harding softball team swept East Central in Great American Conference action at the Harding Softball Field on Saturday. The Lady Bisons won 4-1 and 8-2.
Harding improved to 13-8 overall and 6-4 in the GAC. East Central fell to 13-10 overall and 5-5 in the GAC.
Game One
Harding got on the board in the first in the first inning when Jessica Greene scored on a wild pitch.
The Lady Bisons scored two more in the bottom of the third. Courtney Derrick scored the first run on a throwing error by the catcher. Mackenzie Jones drove in the second run when she singled to center field that scored Kinsey Beck from third.
Harding recorded its last run in the fourth when Derrick singled through the left side that scored Amanda Berdon from third.
The Lady Tigers only run came in the fifth inning, when pitcher Nicole Nordie hit a homerun to left field.
Amber Rollins (6-3) got the win for Harding. Rollins pitched all seven innings, giving up six hits and struck out nine. Nordie (2-2) got the loss for East Central.
Derrick also had two stolen bases.
Game Two
Harding took a 3-0 lead in the second inning of game two. Carolyn Clayton hit a sac fly to left field that scored Kimmy Hendricks from third to get things started. Amanda Berdon then doubled to right center field to give Harding runners on second and third. Madison Wickline then hit a single that drove in two more for the Lady Bisons.
Harding went onto score one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Kinsey Beck, Mackenzie Jones, Carolyn Clayton and Marley Edwards all had an RBI for the Lady Bisons.
East Central scored one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning. Harding got out of both innings as the Lady Tigers left the bases loaded both times.
Danielle Hubbard (6-4) got the win for Harding. Hubbard pitched six innings, giving up 10 hits and two runs. Brianna Nunley got the loss for East Central.
The two teams will wrap up their series tomorrow at 12 p.m., at the Harding Softball Field.
