Box Score 2 Photo GallerySEARCY – The Harding softball team split a Great American Conference doubleheader against Ouachita Baptist on Friday. The Lady Bisons fell in the first game in nine innings 1-0 and then bounced back to defeat the Lady Tigers 6-1 in the second game.
Harding moves to 28-23 overall and 20-18 in the GAC. Ouachita Baptist moves to 17-31 overall and 12-22 in the GAC.
The Lady Bisons sealed their spot in the 2014 GAC Championship Tournament last weekend. The tournament will be held in Bentonville, Ark., May 1-3. Harding will be fighting for seeding the rest of the way. The Lady Bisons are currently in sixth place in the GAC standings.
Game One
Ouachita Baptist 1, Harding 0
A bunch of zeroes filled the scoreboard until the top of the ninth inning when Kate Lacina hit a homerun to center field to give Ouachita Baptist the 1-0 lead.
Kinsey Beck doubled to right center with one out to give the Lady Bisons the tying run at second in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Tigers caused the next two Harding batters to pop up to get the win.
Abbi Frakes (10-13) won the pitchers dual, as she got the win for Ouachita Baptist. She went the distance and only gave up four hits.
Amber Rollins (15-11) got the loss for Harding not before setting a new GAC record with 15 strikeouts. Rollins, the GAC strikeouts leader, broke the previous conference record of 13 earlier this season against Arkansas-Monticello.
Carolyn Clayton led Harding with two hits.
Game Two
Harding 6, Ouachita Baptist 1
Harding turned things around in game two as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Carolyn Clayton drove in the Lady Bisons first run and then
Kimmy Hendricks grounded out and picked up the second RBI.
Harding added three more in the bottom of the second inning on four hits and two Ouachita Baptist errors. Clayton picked her up second RBI of the game in the inning.
Kinsey Beck also drove in a run.
The Lady Bisons scored their final run in the sixth inning when Clayton reached on a throwing error as Beck scored.
Danielle Hubbard (11-10) got the win for Harding pitching four innings and gave up four hits and a run.
Megan Gipe came in and got her second career save pitching three innings. Macy Nantz (1-4) got the loss for Ouachita Baptist.
Four Harding players had multiple hits in the game.
Courtney Derrick led Harding with three. Beck, Clayton and
Jessica Greene all had two hits for the Lady Bisons.
The two teams will wrap up their series tomorrow in a doubleheader that starts at noon. The Lady Bisons will be will be wearing special jerseys in the games as they will be participating in National Fastpitch Coaches Association Strikeout Cancer cause. All funds raised will benefit the American Cancer Society.
