Harding’s Mathaus Spiering Named GAC Men's Tennis Player of the Month

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Harding's Mathaus Spiering and Arkansas Tech's Nozomi Matsuoka earned the Great American Conference's Men's and Women's Tennis Player of the Month awards for March, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

 

GAC MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH – Mathaus Spiering, Harding, Fr., Belgrade, Serbia

Spiering earned three victories at the No. 1 singles position. All three wins came against regionally ranked opponents. He improved to 5-1 against regionally ranked opponents and 2-0 against nationally ranked opponents, including the win over No. 20 Sergio De Vilchez from Northwest Missouri State.

 

GAC WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH – Nozomi Matsuoka, Arkansas Tech, Jr., Saitama, Japan

Matsuoka posted 6-1 records at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with Tammy Bell as the Golden Suns won six of seven matches. She helped the Golden Suns defeat nationally ranked Central Oklahoma and Division-I Arkansas-Pine Bluff plus four GAC foes. She and Bell gave Southern Nazarene's top doubles team of Masha Andrianova and Natalia Moreno their first loss.

 

NOTABLE MEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH NOMINEES                                               

- Julian Caminos, Sr., East Central (Went 5-3 at the No. 3 singles position and earned two doubles victories)

 

NOTABLE WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH NOMINEES                                       

- Masha Andrianova, Jr., Southern Nazarene (Improved to 8-0 at No. 1 singles position and 7-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot)

- Elisabeth Dignard, Jr., East Central (Posted a 5-3 record at No. 3 singles and a 4-4 mark from the No. 1 doubles position)

- Benyapa Phumtip, Sr., Harding (Won all five singles matches; teamed with Piper Huey to beat No. 5 doubles team in region)
