Harding Softball Splits Final Regular Season Doubleheader on Tuesday

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Harding softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Delta State on Tuesday. The Lady Bisons won the first game 7-3 but fell in the second game 7-2.

Harding moves to 31-24 overall and Delta State moves to 25-26

The Lady Bisons will have a conference bye this weekend as they already sealed a spot in the Great American Conference Tournament. The tournament will be held in Bentonville, Ark., May 1-3. Harding will learn what seed they have after this weekend's GAC games are over. The Lady Bisons are currently in fifth place in the GAC standings.

Game One

Harding 7, Delta State 3

Harding jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on three hits. Amanda Berdon knocked in the Lady Bisons first run and then Brookelynn Moon doubled to right center that scored Carolyn Clayton.

Harding went scoreless the next four innings until the Lady Bisons scored five in the top of the sixth on six hits and an error. With runners at second and third, Courtney Chambers singled to score both runners. Clayton got an RBI when she walked with the bases loaded. Amanda Berdon then picked up her second and third RBI of the game when she singled to left field.

Delta State had eight hits and scored a run in the fourth, fifth and seventh.

Amber Rollins (17-11) got the win for Harding throwing a complete game. She gave up three runs and struck out six. Miller Maddox got the loss for Delta State.

Every player in the lineup had a hit for Harding. Courtney Derrick had three hits and two runs for the Lady Bisons. Moon also had three hits.

Game Two

Delta State 7, Harding 2

The game was scoreless until the third inning when Delta State took a 3-0 lead on three hits and an error. The Lady Statesmen added one more in the fifth and then scored three in the bottom of the sixth on three hits and two errors.

All of Harding's runs came in the top of the seventh when Marley Edwards doubled to right center that scored Mackenzie Jones and Carolyn Clayton.

Macie Wilde had a no-hitter until the seventh. Wilde (8-7) got the win for Delta State only giving up three hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Danielle Hubbard (12-11) got the loss for Harding.

Delta State was led by Mariah Alvarez who had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
