Harding Softball Splits with Arkansas Tech on Tuesday

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.  – The Harding softball team split with Arkansas Tech on Tuesday in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons won the series 3-1 after sweeping the Golden Suns in Searcy on March 25.

Harding moves to 26-19 overall and 18-14 in the GAC. Arkansas Tech is now 20-22 overall and 10-18 in the GAC.

Game One

Harding 4, Arkansas Tech 3

Harding got on the board first in the second inning when Amanda Berdon hit a homerun. Arkansas Tech tied the game in the third on a solo homerun by Jalissa Gum. Harding took the lead in the fifth when Courtney Chambers knocked in Emily Jones who pinch ran for Berdon who singled.

The Golden Suns took the lead in the sixth when Whitney Robinson hit a two-run homer to right center field. Harding answered back in the seventh scoring two runs.  Berdon knocked another homerun to tie the game then Courtney Derrick then scored the go ahead run on a throwing error by the Arkansas Tech shortstop. It was the second time this season Berdon has had two homeruns in a game.

Derrick and Berdon each had three hits for Harding.

Amber Rollins picked up her 15th win of the season throwing a complete game. She gave up two hits and three runs and struck out six. Victoria Huie (8-10) got the loss for Arkansas Tech.

Game Two

Arkansas Tech 6, Harding 3

Arkansas Tech scored a run in each of the first two innings and then scored three in the fourth and then another run in the fifth.

Harding scored three runs on five hits in the seventh but couldn't overcome the deficit. The Lady Bisons had 10 hits in the game but left 11 runners on.

Sydnee Clark (10-9) got the win for Arkansas Tech pitching 6 1/3rd innings and struck out five. Danielle Hubbard (9-8) got the loss for Harding.

Kinsey Beck went 2-for-4 and Marley Edwards had two RBI for harding. Amanda Berdon also drove in a run.

The Lady Bisons will continue GAC action this weekend as they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Henderson State in a Saturday-Sunday series. First pitch on Saturday is at 1 p.m.
