The Harding softball team will play six more regional games this weekend. The Lady Bisons will play Minnesota-Duluth and Central Missouri on Friday, Northeastern State and Truman State on Saturday and then Pittsburg State and Drury on Sunday. All games will count toward Harding's regional record.
It will be the third straight year Harding has participated in the tournament. The Lady Bisons hold a 6-6 record in the tournament. Harding went 4-2 in 2014 and 2-4 last year.
Harding Team Notes:
Harding heads into the classic with a 3-3 record. The Lady Bisons are coming off a 1-3 record at the Ouachita Classic last weekend. Harding defeated Mississippi College 7-6 but fell to Northeastern State (5-4), Missouri Western (7-5 and 4-1).
Harding is led on the season by senior Kinsey Beck who is hitting .450 with nine hits, two doubles and three runs scored. Freshman Alexus Lawellin is hitting .421 with eight hits and five runs scored. Junior Kimmy Hendricks leads Harding in RBI's with 11.
The Lady Bisons are led in the circle by Hannah Johnson who has a 0.88 ERA in 16 innings of work.
Minnesota Duluth Notes:
Minnesota Duluth, a NCAA Division II member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, will be playing its first games of the season.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 33-22 record last season. Minnesota Duluth finished sixth in the conference with a 17-13 record.
The Bulldogs return their top hitter from last season. Sophomore Hannah Schmoll hit .406 with a team hit 78 hits. She also had seven doubles and two triples and a team high 48 runs scored.
Minnesota Duluth returns all three pitchers from last season who had a 3.22 team ERA. Senior Cayli Sadler is the top returning pitcher for the Bulldogs. She had a 2.98 ERA and a 18-11 record last season.
It will be the first meeting between Harding and Minnesota Duluth.
Central Missouri Notes:
Central Missouri, a NCAA Division II member of the MIAA, heads into the tournament with a 2-4 record. The Jennies participated in the Southeastern Oklahoma Tournament last weekend. Central Missouri defeated Oklahoma Christian 6-0 and Southwestern Oklahoma 5-0 but fell to Henderson State (6-4, Southeastern Oklahoma (6-4) and Arkansas Tech (5-0 and 8-0).
The Jennies are coming off a 49-13 record last season and won the MIAA with a 21-5 record. Central Missouri finished the season ranked eighth in NCAA Division II.
The Jennies are led on the season by Lauren Mabe who is hitting .267. In 15 at bats she has four hits, four RBI's and three run scored.
Jordan Johnson leads Central Missouri in the circle with a 4.72 ERA and a 1-1 record.
It will be the first meeting between Harding and Central Missouri.
Northeastern State Notes:
Northeastern State, a NCAA Division II member of the MIAA, heads into the tournament with a 3-1 record.
The RiverHawks are led on the season by Kelsey Harmon who is hitting .500 in 10 at bats. She has five hits, three doubles and three runs scored.
Northeastern State is led in the circle by Kayce Wooldridge who has a 0.50 ERA and a 2-0 record.
Harding and the RiverHawks are meeting for the third time. The series is tied 1-1. When the two teams met last weekend, Northeastern State won 5-4.
Truman State Notes:
Truman State, a NCAA Division II member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, will be playing its first games of the season.
The Bulldogs are coming off a trip to the NCAA Tournament last season. Truman State went 33-15 last season and finished fourth in the conference with a 21-7 conference record.
Junior Lex Van Nostrand is the top returner for the Bulldogs. She hit .394 last season with 61 hits, two doubles, two triples and six homeruns.
Junior Kelsea Dorsey led Truman State in the circle last season. She returns for her senior season. Last season she had a 2.39 ERA and a 17-6 record.
Truman State leads the series against Harding 1-0.
Pittsburg State Notes:
Pittsburg State, a NCAA Division II member of the MIAA, heads into the tournament with a 5-0 record. The Gorillas defeated Southeastern Oklahoma (11-3), Southwestern Oklahoma (7-2), Henderson State (2-0), Southeastern Oklahoma (7-0) and Oklahoma Christian (6-1).
Pittsburg State is led on the season by Alex Perez who is hitting .500 on the season. In 16 at bats, she has eight hits, two doubles and five runs scored.
The Gorillas are led in the circle by Emmie Robertson who has a 1.00 ERA and a 3-0 record. In 21 innings pitched she has 31 strikeouts.
Pittsburg State least the series against Harding 1-0.
Drury Notes:
Drury, a NCAA Division II member of the Great Lakes Volley Conference, heads into the tournament with a 1-1 record. The Panthers split with Christian Brothers, dropping the first game 11-5 but won the second game 6-4.
Drury went 25-27 last season and finished 10th in the conference with a 12-18 record.
The Panthers are led on the season by Emily Stringer who is hitting .500 on the season. In six at bats, she has three hits and two runs scored.
Drury is led in the circle by Miki Andrus who has a 3.50 ERA.
Harding leads the series against Drury 1-0.
