The Harding softball team will look for four wins this weekend when it takes part in the Ronnie Hawkins Memorial Classic hosted by Ouachita. The Lady Bisons will face Northeastern State and Missouri Western on Saturday and then play Mississippi College and Missouri Western again on Sunday.

It will be the first time Harding has participated in the tournament.

Harding Team Notes:
Harding heads into the classic with a  2-0 record. The Lady Bisons are coming off two wins at Christian Brothers to open the season last Saturday. Harding won the first game 9-2 and the second game 12-0 in five innings.

Harding has three players with four hits on the season. Freshman Alexus Lawellin has four hits, two doubles and three runs scored. Junior Kimmy Hendricks has four hits, a grand slam, seven RBI's and three runs scored. Junior Courtney Derrick has four hits and four runs scored.

Freshman Ashley Smith, who picked up her first win and complete game on Saturday, heads into the tournament with a 0.00 ERA.

With their performances on Saturday Kimmy Hendricks and Ashley Smith were named GAC Players of the Week.


Northeastern State Notes:
Northeastern State, a NCAA Division II member of the MIAA, will be playing its first games of the season.

The RiverHawks return eight starters from last year's squad that went 21-30.

Northeastern State went 11-15 in the MIAA last season to finish 10th in the standings.

The RiverHawks return their top hitter from last season. Madison Boyd hit .347 with 61 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, two homeruns and 29 RBI's.

Northeastern State also returns its top pitcher. Kayce Wooldridge posted a 3.96 ERA last season. She pitched 155 2/3 innings and had 95 strikeouts.

Harding and Northeastern State met in Stephensville, Texas in 2014. The Lady Bisons came out on top 6-4. It was Harding's first ever game and it was its first ever win. Courtney Derrick had three hits in the game and one RBI. Brookelynn Moon had two hits and two RBI's.

Missouri Western Notes:

Missouri Western, a NCAA Division II member of the MIAA, will be playing its first games of the season.

The Griffons are coming off a trip to the NCAA regional tournament last season. Missouri Western had a 36-21 overall record and a 17-10 MIAA record. The Griffons finished fourth in the conference standings and advanced to the MIAA Tournament Championship game.

Sophomore Paige Shifflett is the top returner for Missouri Western. Shifflett hit .347 last season with 59 hits and 43 RBI's.

Janie Smith returns for her senior season for the Griffons. Smith led Missouri Western in the circle with a 2.69 ERA and a 19-13 record. She pitched 213 innings and had 134 strikeouts.

It will be the first meeting between Harding and Missouri Western

Mississippi College Notes:

Mississippi College is in provisional status with NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College was a member of the NCCAA.

The Lady Choctaws are coming off a 30-24 season. Mississippi College posted a 14-15 record in the GSC to finish seventh.

Junior Megan Everett is the top returner for the Lady Choctaws. She hit .360 last season in 175 at bats. She had 57 hits and led the team in RBI's with 35.

Senior Carlie Sargent led Mississippi College in the circle last season. Sargent had a 2.79 ERA and an 18-13 record.

It will be the first meeting between Harding and Mississippi College.
