Harding History: March 22 - Baseball Upset, Triple Triples, Streak Started

Below are some events that happened in Harding sports on March 22.

Baseball
  • March 22, 2009 – Harding scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and score a 3-2 walk-off upset of 28th-ranked Ouachita Baptist. Kevin Ganus started the rally with a leadoff double, his 10th of the season. Tyler Thompson drove in the first run, and Chase Presley tied the game with an RBI single before scoring the winning run on Jon David Glenn's single to right center.
  • March 22, 2016 – Harding tied school record with three triples in a 16-14 win at Union. Zac Stewart, who scored five runs in the game, Harrison Hunter and Blake Coward all had triples. The Bisons scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to erase a 14-12 deficit. Stewart came in to pitch the last two innings of the game. He was the winning pitcher, retiring all five batters he faced, including three by strikeout. 
Men's Golf
  • March 22, 2016 – Harding sophomore Mason Banger turned in his third top-10 finish in six tournaments, shooting a 36-hole score of 15-over 159 to tie for seventh at the Broncho Invitational by RBC Bank, played at the par-72, 7,136-yard Gaillardia Country Club.
Men's Tennis
  • March 22, 1990 – Harding entered a match against Central Arkansas having lost five of its last six matches, but the Bisons won 9-0 over the Bears. Harding did not lose again until March 15, 1991, winning a school-record 25 consecutive matches. The team finished the 1990 season 27-6 and won the AIC regular season championship with a perfect 7-0 record. Richie Roberts and Ernesto Tovar earned NAIA All-America honors that season.
Women's Tennis
  • March 22, 1994 – Harding defeated Arkansas Tech 9-0 to move to 13-1 on the season. That year, the Lady Bisons won 16 of their first 17 matches, losing only to Division I Arkansas State. Harding won the AIC championship and finished the season ranked 12th in NAIA.
Women's Track and Field
  • March 22, 2009 - Harding junior Esther Komen posted the first NCAA provisional time for the Lady Bison track team at the Rhodes Open. Komen placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11 minutes, 7.60 seconds. Komen earned All-America honors in the 3,000 meters in 2008.
