Five Harding Tennis Players Named All-MIAA/GAC; Redding Named Coach of the Year

The Harding men's tennis team placed five players on the All-MIAA/GAC Teams on Wednesday with Head Coach David Redding being named Coach of the Year. The Bisons (9-6, 3-1), the No. 1 seed in the South Division in the MIAA/GAC Tournament, had two players named to the First Team, one named to the Second Team, and two named Honorable Mention.

It was the first time Harding men's tennis has had a conference coach of the year since David Elliott in 1993. Redding is 70-38 in his six seasons as the men's head coach. Redding also serves as the Harding women's head coach and was also named the 2021 GAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.

Sophomore Dani Ortiz was named to the First Team at No. 2 singles. Ortiz, the 2020 ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year, is 11-3 on the season and went a perfect 4-0 in conference play. Ortiz dropped just one set in conference play this season. Junior Alvaro de Lorenzo was also named to the First Team at No. 5 singles. De Lorenzo is tied with Ortiz for the most wins on the season for the Bisons, going 11-4 thus far and went 3-1 in conference play.

Senior Luis Tirado earned his third Second Team All-Conference honor after being named All-GAC Second Team in 2018 and 2019. Tirado, who tied the honor with Bradley Eidenmueller from Washburn, is 9-3 on the season and went 3-0 in conference play. In his three conference victories, Tirado didn't drop a set.

Senior Morgan Salvan added another accolade to his already decorated career. Salvan was named All-MIAA/GAC Honorable Mention at No. 3 singles. Salvan was the 2018 ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year and 2018 GAC Freshman of the Year while also earning All-GAC First Team in 2018 and 2019. Sophomore Bryce Walker was also named Honorable Mention at No. 6 singles. Walker is 9-4 on the year and went 3-1 in conference play.

The Bisons are the No. 1 seed from the South Division in the MIAA/GAC and will face off against Northwest Missouri State on Saturday May 1 at 10 a.m. in the semifinals of the MIAA/GAC Tournament.
