Bush Runs Fastest 400 Time in Division II to Highlight Men's Track Weekend

SEARCY – Harding men's track and field was in action in two meets this weekend—the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford, Mississippi, and the Dan Veach Invitational in Magnolia, Arkansas.

At the Ole Miss Classic, junior Dakarai Bush broke a 20-year-old school record in the 400 meters, winning with an NCAA provisional time of 46.60 seconds. He broke the record of 47.20 seconds, set by Tyler Kemmerer in 2003. Bush's time is the fastest in Division II this season.

Bush also won the 200 meters in a personal-best time of 21.33 seconds. He also won the 200 meters last weekend at Harding in 21.83.

Harding also had a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay. The team of Krishaun Watson, Savian Bush, Tad Kirby, and Dakarai Bush finished in 41.77 seconds.

In the field events, freshman Vlad Malykhin won the pole vault, clearing a provisional height of 5.26 meters or 17 feet, 3 inches. It was the second-highest clearance in Division II this season.

Freshman Anton Kopytko won the long jump with a mark of 7.35 meters or 24 feet, 1.50 inches on his second of six attempts. His mark was just one inch short of the Harding school record and ranks sixth this season in Division II.

At the Dan Veach Invitational, Harding had one running event victory and one field event. Freshman Kyle Oakes won the 5,000 meters in 16 minutes, 09.56 seconds. Sophomore Kenneth Hatley won the hammer throw with a mark of 52.67 meters or 172 feet, 10 inches.

Harding had 10 other top-3 finishes at the event. In the running events, sophomore Drake Carnley placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.12 and sophomore Caleb Chunn was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:31.09. Third-place finishes in the running events came from freshman Bryan Singleton in the 400 meters (49.97), junior Matt Ingalsbe in the 1,500 meters (4:19.41), and senior Paxton Davis in the steeplechase (11:35.31).

Harding also placed third in the 4x400 relay in 3:33.71.

In the field events, freshman Isaac Nirella placed second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.15 meters or 13 feet, 7.25 inches. Hatley was second in the discus with a toss of 45.69 meters or 149 feet, 11 inches.

Third-place finishes in the field events came from senior Tyler Harrod in the pole vault (3.60m, 11-09.75) and sophomore Seth West in the javelin (42.22m, 138-6).

Next week, Harding will be in action at three events—the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, the Texas State Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, and the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Missouri.
