RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – For the second time this spring, Harding senior Karli Roux has been named the Great American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Roux, who previously took home the honor on Feb. 25, earned the recognition after a standout performance against a gauntlet of nationally ranked opponents. The Cape Town, South Africa, native went toe-to-toe with three of the top programs in Division II, highlighted by a signature win over No. 5 Washburn.
In Saturday's road dual in Edmond, Oklahoma, Roux defeated No. 31-ranked Riko Konno in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). The victory moved Roux to No. 33 in the latest ITA National Singles Rankings and marked her second win over a ranked foe this season.
Earlier in the week, Roux pushed No. 32 Mei Hasegawa of Central Oklahoma to three sets and was locked in a second-set battle with No. 3 Selin Sepken of Midwestern State before the match went unfinished.
In doubles play, Roux and freshman Brooke Coffman bolstered their No. 7 national ranking by defeating Washburn's top flight, 7-5. The duo is now 13-6 on the year and remains the highest-ranked pairing in the GAC.
Roux was selected for the award by a three-person committee, edging out fellow nominees Rebecca Arnold (Arkansas Tech) and Ruxandra Tolescu (Ouachita Baptist).
Harding (2-7) returns to the Elliott Tennis Complex this weekend for a non-conference clash. The Lady Bisons are scheduled to host Northeastern State on Saturday, March 21, with first serve set for 1:00 p.m.
