RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Harding University senior Josie Parks was named the Great American Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, following her historic performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Parks, a native of Columbia, Tennessee, established a new Harding school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while competing in Azusa, California. Her time of 10:26.96 eclipsed the previous school record by nearly 10 seconds—a mark that had stood for 17 years.
In a highly competitive field, Parks finished 21st overall and placed third among NCAA Division II runners. Her time currently leads the Great American Conference and ranks as the sixth-fastest performance in Division II this season.
Oklahoma Baptist senior Jamora Horace earned the GAC Field Athlete of the Week honor after winning the high jump at the Emporia Relays with a provisional mark of 1.77 meters.
Harding junior Ally Cheek was also nominated for the field award this week.
All conference weekly awards are selected by a three-person committee. The Lady Bisons return to action as they continue their preparations for the upcoming conference championships.
