Jones, Hammitt Break HU Records at Harding Invitational

SEARCY – Over the weekend, more than 40 members of the Harding men's outdoor track and field team showcased their skills at the Harding Invitational held at the new Ted and Marcie Lloyd Track and Field Complex.

The standout performances for the Bisons included six NCAA provisional times and two school records.

Junior Antiwain Jones surpassed his own school record in the high jump, achieving an NCAA provisional height of 2.20m (7-2.50). He skipped heights until 1.97m, then successfully cleared that mark along with 2.02m on his initial attempts. It took Jones two tries to clear 2.12m and 2.17m (just off his previous high of 2.18m). On his second attempt at 2.20m, Jones secured the record. This clearance stands as the highest in Division II so far in the outdoor season.

Sophomore Casen Hammitt achieved a remarkable feat on his first javelin throw, becoming the first Harding athlete to hurl the spear over 200 feet. His initial mark reached 62.97m (206-7), ranking as the fifth-longest throw in Division II this season. Hammitt had previously held the best mark of 60.45m (198-4), which he set the previous weekend at Hendrix.

Junior Savian Bush clocked a provisional time while clinching victory in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.15 seconds, his personal best in the event and the third-fastest time in Division II. Bush also triumphed in the 200 meters with a personal record (PR) time of 21.84 seconds.

Senior Jonathan Wall emerged victorious in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.90m (16-0.75), ranking him third in Division II with that height.

Harding recorded two provisional marks in the discus. Freshman Lukas Stiper claimed first place with a throw of 51.34m (168-5), followed by junior Spencer Helms in second with 50.97m (167-3). Stiper ranks third in Division II, while Helms sits at fifth.

Other event victories for Harding included Donald Nwamare (10.65, 100 meters), Samuel Williams (48.18, 400 meters), Noah Haileab (1:56.36, 800 meters; 4:03.30, 1,500 meters), Luke Walling (14:41.03, 5,000 meters), Yves Bilong (6.57m, 21-6.75, long jump), Daniel Osoba (13.64m, 44-9, triple jump), Spencer Helms (15.74m, 51-7.75, shot put), and Kenneth Hatley (56.61m, 185-9, hammer).

The next competition for Harding is scheduled for the Ole Miss Classic on Mar. 22-23 in Oxford, Mississippi.
