CONWAY, Ark. – Harding sophomore Casen Hammitt opened the 2024 outdoor track and field season by setting a school record in the javelin throw at the Hendrix Alumni Open.
His throw of 60.45m (198-4) was an NCAA provisional mark and broke the previous record of 58.95m (193-5) set by Kelmen de Carvalho last season at Texas.
Harding also had an event victory in the discus with a 1-2-3 finish. Freshman Lukas Stiper won with a throw of 50.22m (164-9). Spencer Helms was second at 48.31m (158-6), and Kenneth Hatley was third at 47.18m (154-9).
Hatley was also fourth in the hammer at 53.19m (174-6), and Helms was fourth in the shot put at 14.57m (47-9.75).
Freshman Isaac Miller placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.45m (21-2).
